Photo Trip Planner for Google Docs

Our photo trip planner (Google Docs format) was created specifically for landscape and travel photographers. Scout locations, plan your trip, and keep everything in one handy document for use on a desktop computer or mobile device.

Organized research & planning for landscape and travel photographers

Research and scouting are critical aspects of landscape and travel photography. Sure, you can skip the planning, show up, and get lucky sometimes, but planning is essential to consistently capture the best photos possible.

You might spend hours researching a location to find the best photo opportunities, vantage points, trails, and timing for your shots, but how do you organize and keep track of the information? Our Photo Trip Planner for Google Docs makes it a cinch.

Google Docs is an ideal platform for your planner because it’s simple, accessible from a desktop or mobile device, and can be used offline if you’re in a remote location without internet access.

And since the planner is a Google Doc, it’s completely editable and customizable. You can easily remove sections that aren’t relevant to your trip, copy and paste sections as needed (for example, to plan for more locations or trails), and add other details as you see fit. You can also easily add photos/images for reference.

The planner document includes sections for:

  • Location research and scouting
  • Top sunrise and sunset locations
  • Creating a packing checklist
  • Keeping tabs on your travel reservations (flight, car rental, hotel, etc.)
  • Tracking the weather forecast
  • Managing your schedule or itinerary

Pay once and use it over and over again. Just make a copy of the document for each trip you plan.

Organize Your Research

Keep all of your notes in one handy place. Organize details related to transportation options, locations, permits and requirements, seasonal impacts, terrain details, local wildlife, places to eat, and more. You can easily access all of this data while on your trip!

Record Scouting Notes

Keep all of your scouting details neat and organized. Here you can keep tabs on the noteworthy locations or spots you want to photograph and include notes about important details to maximize your results. Take notes on your priority shots for the trip, links to guides and sources, and much more.

Make the Most of Golden Hour

Planning for the golden hour is an important part of most landscape photography trips. With that in mind, the planner’s “Scouting” tab includes a spot to keep track of the locations you want to photograph at sunrise and sunset. Include notes with all the important details you’ll need during your trip.

Track the Weather Details

Enter details from the weather forecast to track the expected weather for each day of your trip. Keep this info along with all the other trip details in one convenient location.

Use the Packing Checklist

Use the packing checklist to ensure you don’t forget anything important. The checklist is pre-populated with typical items needed for a photo trip, but you can easily add, remove, or edit the list of items to suit your needs.

Track Your Reservations

The planner includes a “Reservations” tab to keep important details of your flight, car rental, lodging, tours, activities, and more.
